Christmas with a Heart We invite the San Diego Community to be a part of the Heart
of Christmas at Om Center for Spiritual Living. Every donation makes a difference.
Christmas 2011 Community Giving and Sponsorship This year we have decided to participate in 2 different community
programs. The “ We Dare to Care – Serving Those in Need” program and Christmas Day Luncheonette at
the Sara Frances Hometel for the Elderly.
“We
Dare to Care” is a grass roots Community Outreach
Program to Feed the Homeless in San Diego. Every month volunteers from Om Center for Spiritual Living come together
to assist in making lunches for the homeless. Our Christmas project will be to assist in purchasing goods that will
assist in the production of the monthly programs. Below is a list of items we can provide: *Miracle
whip or mayonnaise *Peanut butter *Jelly
*Chips (such as 50 count box, etc.)
*Bottled water *Sandwich bags *Napkins
*Brown lunch bags *Paper/Styrofoam bowls (used to serve the hot meals)
*Plastic Forks *Plastic grocery
bags to be used for distribution of the snacks that go with the hot meals If you would
like to support this program, simply purchase NEW goods and put it under our Christmas Tree. We will deliver it to ““We Dare to Care” right after Christmas. If you would
like to donate cash, please make your checks out to “We Dare To Care” and we will deliver your gifts.
Christmas Day Luncheonette
at the Sara Frances Hometel for the Elderly. This year we would like to touch the hearts of those who live downtown in a community that is
sometimes ignored. This includes older men and women who live by themselves and are in many cases left alone during
the holidays. This year we would like to provide this community with a luncheonette and assortment of small gifts they
could use during the cold season. Additionally, bring some cheer and smiles on Christmas Day. If you would like
to participate with this project see Rev. Suzette and/or Candace as we are forming a committee to organize all the details.
In addition to the luncheonette we would like to start gathering up NEW items such as: socks, gloves, scarves, candy, and small things
we could give away. We want to collect at least 100 different items that
be used by both men and women. These can be left under the Christmas Tree. If you have any ideas please bring
them forward. Rev. Suzette’s number is 858.213.7061 and Candace’s number is 805.886.6959.
THANK YOU OM CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL LIVING, I AM PROUD THAT WE CAN
BE OF SUPPORT TO THE LARGER COMMUNITY IN A WAY THAT WILL SURELY TOUCH MANY HEARTS! Much Love, Rev. Suzette Wehunt

A Message from our Youth - " A Soldier's Heart " Good morning, I am a member and part of our Young Adult Group at Santa
Rosa Center for Spiritual Living.
Next Tuesday, November 11th, will be the 90th anniversary
of Armistice Day.
An armistice is a situation where warring parties agree to stop fighting. This day was originally
set aside to reflect and remember the sacrifices men and women made during World
War I. About 1953 it became Veteran's
Day to acknowledge the veterans of all wars and to thank them for their service.
But no matter which conflict they were in, our soldiers often return with "Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder", also known as "Soldier's Heart". I prefer this term because it reminds
me of the soul-wounding that happens in war.
In 1998, the total
number of Vietnam veterans who committed suicide after returning
to the US was over 100,000. The memorial in Washington DC would be three times its current length
if all the names of our dead were included today.
What we don't
learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat. The Iraq Wars have
not produced as many dead as other wars. But in 2007, CBS reported on the "Suicide Epidemic
among Veterans" of the Iraq Wars stating that veterans' aged 20-24 had the highest rate
- conservatively estimating 120 deaths per week in 2005 alone by suicide.
It is important for me to remember that a spiritual being has no political party or agenda,
only love. And it does not matter if I believe in their cause or logic. I must remember that these men
and women are our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters; and are entitled
to God's love and therefore my love. Because of this love I can only give my
whole hearted support to the process of helping to heal and welcome them home. It is my belief that
we the people have a responsibility, by which I mean the ability to respond, to our veterans. To the
returning veteran, let our leaders and people say "You did this in our name and because you were subject to our orders. Let us help. We will share this burden with you. We love and honor
you. Welcome home."
Without this sharing of responsibility, the veteran becomes the
nation's scapegoat and carries the nation's grief and guilt for all of us. Keeping our distance from our veterans is how we dehumanize them.
I am not here to ask
for money or for a moment of silence. For those who have past have only silence left, and silence will
not serve those who are still with us. I ask only for your thoughts of love to touch those in your life that have come back and remember those who did not. To them say "thank you".
It is my hope that we begin to think about what we can do, as a community, to help bring peace to the
hearts & minds of all veterans and for us to help them find their way home. Ah, the WISDOM of our Youth! Blessings, Rev. Suzette
